Softdrinks and other junk food will be phased out of Tasmania’s government school canteens as part of a push to improve kids’ health, in line with the Tasmanian Government’s aim to have Australia’s healthiest population by 2025. The School Canteen Association has a goal that all schools will have commenced a process to gain canteen accreditation by 2020. Accreditation will mean there will be no room for sugary drinks or junk food. Sixty-two schools already have the accreditation, with 103 yet to start the process.
